Professional Development

Mission Gorge Flood 02-23-2005FMA hosts workshops, symposiums and one major Conference annually. The conferences provide members an opportunity to present and discuss technical papers on various aspects of floodplain management as well as attend presentations by state and federal officials concerning their programs. The conferences also provide an opportunity for members to exchange information with their counterparts, learn about new products and services from vendor displays, and network with other floodplain management professionals.

FMA is a chapter of the Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM) which has established a national program for professional certification of floodplain managers. The program recognizes continuing education and professional development that enhance the knowledge and performance of local, state, federal, and private-sector floodplain managers. Certified Floodplain Managers (CFMs) receive continuing education credits at FMA's workshops, symposiums and conferences in order to meet annual education credit requirements.
